The Power of Space and Time - How Spatial and Temporal Structures Can Replace Computational Effort
نویسنده
چکیده
Spatial structures determine the ways we perceive our environment and the ways we act in it in important ways. Spatial structures also determine the ways we think about our environment and how we solve spatial problems abstractly. When we use graphics to visualize certain aspects of spatial and non-spatial entities, we exploit the power of spatial structures to better understand important relationships. We also are able to imagine spatial structures and to apply mental operations to them. Similarly, the structure of time determines the course of events in cognitive processing. In my talk I will present knowledge representation research in spatial cognition. I will demonstrate the power of spatial structures in comparison to formal descriptions that are conventionally used for spatial problem solving in computer science. I suggest that spatial and temporal structures can be exploited for the design of powerful spatial computers. I will show that spatial computers can be particularly suitable and efficient for spatio-temporal problem solving but may also be used for abstract problem solving in non-spatial domains.

Spatio-temporal analysis of the covid-19 impacts on the using Chicago urban shared bicycles by tensor-based approach
Cycling is a phenomenon in urban transportation that has the ability to allocate a specific location at any moment in time. Accordingly, spatial analysis of bicycle trips can be accompanied by temporal analysis. The use of a GIS environment is commonly recommended to display the extent of the phenomenon's spatial changes. However, in order to apply and display changes over time, it will requir...
متن کاملSpatial Computing How Spatial Structures Replace Computational Effort
At the Advanced Study Institute on Cognitive and Linguistic Aspects of Geographic Space in Las Navas del Marqués in July 1990, I presented a chapter on Qualitative Spatial Reasoning. In that chapter, I suggested that spatial inference engines might provide the basis for rather general cognitive capabilities inside and outside the spatial domain. In the present chapter, I will follow up on this ...
متن کاملAssessing Effective Indexes on Personal Preferences of Citizens in Urban Public Spaces, Case Study Daneshjou Park in Tehran
Urban areas are the most important place to the formation of citizen action, agency, possibility and context of social functions. In this sense, space is always the potential that can be actualize in ways such as the presence of people in it. In today's everyday life, public spaces including parks can be as active domains, abandoned citizens from the routine imperative, or at least pull out th...

Public space is the realm of the concrete and substantial presence of the different social groups with different behavior patterns. The concept of space in this sense is an entity that, by the people and through individual and collective action and social relations are formed. The presence of people in the space-in a way that is free from domination, could Strength the urban life. this paper, b...
متن کاملAnalysis of the Characteristics, Physical Concepts and Entropy Generation in a Turbulent Channel Flow Using Vortex Blob Method
In this paper, using vortex blob method (VBM), turbulent flow in a channel is studied and physical concepts of turbulence are obtained and discussed. At first, time-averaged velocities, and , and then their fluctuations are calculated. To clarify turbulence structures, velocity fluctuations and are plotted. It is observed that turbulence structures occupy different positions and move with con...
